Poetry Month and Three Weeks for Dreamwidth

April is the month a number of folks share poems on their blogs, and April 25th is the start of [community profile] three_weeks_for_dw.

So we'd like to combine that and ask you to share some transcriptions, transliterations and/or translations of poems, ideally ones hard to already find in other places online.

There's no pressure, but if you'd like to comment to this post with a tentative sign-up, saying what language and date you'd like to post in and on, jump in! You could also use this post to brainstorm collaborations - for instance, you might have a book of translated stuff you could type up, but would like some help from a native speaker in tracking down the original, or you can transliterate something but don't have the font or script for a transcription.

It would be great if we could have at least 15-20 languages represented, and some hopefully ones that don't actually already feature in our tags.

And poetry encompasses everything from song lyrics to lullabies and playground chants, so please don't worry about having to translate only the timeless classics.

On the theme of collaborations, does anyone perhaps have more familiarity with Pashto than I do? I would like to be certain that my transliterations and transcriptions are accurate. (Text in question is a collection of the poems of Khushal Khan Khattak.)

I can post some Chinese poems and lyrics, and I'll do better on week days. However, I don't know other languages, sorry.

Ooh, I wouldn't mind posting some Ancient Greek - if ancient languages are welcome, that is? I have a translation of Lysistrata's opening that I worked on a while ago, but never put to any use, which was an attempt to refigure the humour into a British context in a way that would highlight how (a) Aristophanes is actually funny and (b) Aristophanes is actually offensive - though I'm not sure whether that sort of thing would be appropriate for the comm(?). I can probably get together something literal as well, if only typing up the facing translation in the edition I have.

In terms of dates, I don't really have a preference... Maybe the 2nd May for a nice and comfy half-way through?

Oh gosh, I might (mightmightmight) be able to translate the Finnish poem "Herra Pii Poo" -- I'm not finding any English translations in a quick Google. Or maybe something else, but that might be easiest for me.

I'd rather not commit to a date cuz it will stress me out, though, if that's all right. :/

May I do Filipino? I cannot brain dates right now so I can't commit to a specific date, but any time after April 15th would be good. <3

This would appear to be the perfect opportunity to ask if Celtic Languages are acceptable for inclusion here?

If so, I can contribute some Gaelic poetry with translations?

So I've apparently volunteered myself to translate some of the really dirty Catullus poems--I don't know if they're quite what you're looking for, but if they are I'd love to post them here. Later in the month would be better re: dates.

May I do some on Hawai'ian, please?

I see no one volunteered anything Polish, so: I should have some half-done translations of WWII-era poetry and radical/anti-government songs ... somewhere. I used a few to highlight the cultural otherness of Eastern Europe, so I think they might fit with the community. Yay?
