April is for Poetry - 夜行者 by 戴望舒.
I've been posting my own translation of various modern Chinese poems in this tag for the April Poetry Month. Come take a look. Constructive criticism is welcomed.
For more legitimacy, here is the poem for today:
Original Text:
Transliteration in pinyin:
zhèlǐ tā lái le yè xíng zhě!
lěng qīng qīng de jiē dào yǒu chén zhuó de qióng yīn,
cóng hēi máng máng de wù ,
cóng hēi máng máng de wù 。
yè de zuì shú rěn de péng yǒu ,
tā zhī dào tā de yī qiè suǒ suì ,
nà me shú rěn , zài tā de xūn táo zhōng ,
tā rǎn le tā yī qiè zuì gǔ guài de pí qì 。
yè xíng zhě shì zuì gǔ guài de rén 。
nǐ kàn tā zài hēi yè li :
dài zhe hēi sè de zhān mào,
mài zhe yè yī yàng jìng de bù zi
My translation:
Here he comes: The Night walker!
The lonely street there are deep footsteps
From the black mist
To the black mist.
Night's most familiar friend,
He knows its every tidbits
So Familiar, In its influence,
He is afflicted with its strangest temper.
Night walker is the strangest man.
You see him in the black night:
Wearing black felt hat,
Walking nightly quiet steps.

asking for an explanation sounds stupid.. but is the night walker a well known symbol or something?
not really sure what the poem is about!

It's one of the poet's symbolic poem so it's more about the image rather than the meaning, I guess. I chose this because I think the image's fascinating.
