Speaking of modern African script, a friend of mine and blogger, Sugabelly is currently developing the Ndebe script for the Igbo language. When she first told me of her project, she asked for any help I (and several other of our mutual friends) could give because she wanted the script to be applicable to other Nigerian languages such as Yoruba. It has been amazing watching the script develop and I hope it catches on! Here is a video tutorial of the alphabet.
